JFK Airport: U.S. Customs and Border Protection Enforcement
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at John F. Kennedy International Airport strengthened border security in March, removing 194 inadmissible aliens. This follows the removal of 135 inadmissible aliens in February.
CBP Director's Statement
“CBP is committed to upholding U.S. immigration laws and preventing those who attempt to circumvent them from entering the country,” stated Francis J. Russo, Director of CBP’s New York Field Operations. “Our officers are dedicated to protecting the U.S. from those who pose a threat or seek to violate our laws.”
Understanding Admission to the United States
Admission to the U.S. signifies lawful entry after inspection and authorization by a CBP officer. Applicants bear the responsibility of proving their eligibility for entry under U.S. immigration law (Section 291 of the INA [8 USC 1361]). This involves overcoming all grounds of inadmissibility.
Grounds for Inadmissibility
U.S. immigration law (INA § 212(a)) outlines over 60 grounds for inadmissibility, encompassing health concerns, criminal history, security risks, potential public charge, labor certification issues, illegal entry or immigration violations, documentation deficiencies, and other miscellaneous reasons.
Visa Issuance and Entry
It's crucial to remember that a visa or visa waiver doesn't guarantee U.S. entry. A CBP officer at the port of entry makes the final determination of admissibility based on U.S. immigration law.
