El Paso Honors Fallen Border Patrol Agents

EL PASO, TEXAS -- A moving memorial ceremony was held today at the National Border Patrol Museum in El Paso, Texas, to honor the U.S. Border Patrol agents who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the nation. The event, attended by U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector Interim Chief Patrol Agent Walter N. Slosar and other dignitaries, paid tribute to the fallen agents and offered solace to their families.

A Solemn Remembrance

“Today’s memorial serves as a poignant tribute to the unwavering dedication and sacrifice of our fallen agents,” said Chief Patrol Agent Slosar. “Their memories are etched in our hearts, a constant reminder of their heroic service.”

The ceremony solemnly recognized the 159 agents who have died in the line of duty since the U.S. Border Patrol's founding on May 28, 1924. Each name was read aloud, followed by the tolling of a bell and a 21-gun salute. A U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations helicopter flyover and a riderless horse tribute added to the somber atmosphere. The El Paso Sector’s Border Patrol Honor Guard concluded the ceremony with the retirement of the colors.

Annual Tradition

Held annually near the anniversary of the U.S. Border Patrol's founding, the El Paso Sector memorial is especially significant as El Paso housed the agency's first station.
