Streamline Your U.S. Entry with the New CBP Home App
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has launched a new mobile application, CBP Home, designed to expedite the entry process for travelers to the United States. This app allows you to apply for a provisional I-94 (a record of arrival and departure) before arriving at a land border crossing.
Faster Entry with Pre-Arrival I-94 Application
Applying for your I-94 ahead of time significantly reduces processing time at the border. The CBP Home app and the CBP I-94 website offer a convenient way to complete this application. Submit your application up to seven days before your arrival; otherwise, your provisional I-94 will expire.
Who Needs an I-94?
An I-94 is required for most individuals entering the U.S., excluding U.S. citizens, returning foreign visitors with certain visas, and most Canadian citizens. The I-94 is crucial for proving legal visitor status to employers, schools, and government agencies. You can access your I-94 information through the CBP Home app or the CBP I-94 website.
Easy Application Process
The CBP Home app is free to download from the Apple App Store and Google Play. The application fee remains $6, the same as applying in person. Using the app allows you to complete your I-94 application in advance, saving time at the border, avoiding paperwork, and simplifying your travel preparations.
Important Reminders
Remember, you must be physically present to complete the I-94 application process, even with a provisional permit. You'll need to demonstrate financial solvency, proof of residency outside the U.S., and sufficient ties to your home country.
Visa Waiver Program (VWP) Travelers
While not required for land border entry, having an active ESTA is necessary to apply for an I-94 using the CBP Home app. An approved ESTA allows VWP travelers to bypass the Form I-94W at the port of entry and apply for their I-94 beforehand.
