Tragic Rollover Crash Near Gila Bend
Early Sunday morning, a single-vehicle rollover crash near Gila Bend, Arizona, claimed the life of one person and injured 13 others. The incident occurred just before 5 a.m. on the Interstate 8 off-ramp at Butterfield Road.
Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) requested assistance from U.S. Border Patrol agents. Agents from the Ajo Station, including two EMTs, responded swiftly, providing immediate medical care and stabilizing patients until ground and air ambulances arrived.
Ten individuals were transported by ground ambulance, and three others by helicopter. Sadly, one person died at the scene.
Tucson Sector Chief Sean McGoffin commended the agents' rapid response, emphasizing their dedication to assisting those in need and highlighting the life-saving impact of their quick actions.
AZDPS confirmed that no law enforcement was involved in the pursuit of the vehicle prior to the accident. Border Patrol agents were called in solely to provide medical support and traffic control.
