What address do I enter for the US address?

This question is often asked during support. The reason is understandable, because many have no address in the USA. The answer is simple: travellers simply enter the address of the hotel to which they are staying. For a round trip the first stay is simply indicated. Some holidaymakers really don't have a permanent address. You book a flight and look for accommodation only in the states. That's no problem either. In this case, the indication 'unknown' is sufficient.

What to do in case of re-entry?

The ESTA is valid for two years and can be used during this time for any number of trips to the USA. Now most holidaymakers will not always go to the same hotel. In this case, the ESTA is no longer up to date. This is not an obstacle to entry. Although the authorities ask for the address, they do not check it. If you do not update the ESTA, you can still enter the country.

For holidaymakers who want to do everything right, here is a short guide on how to update the ESTA.

Open the ESTA page of Homeland Security. In addition to the close-up of the Statue of Liberty, applicants will find two buttons. There you can either submit a new application or check an existing one. If the field is in English, you can change the language in the upper right corner.

After clicking on "Check existing application", applicants must now decide whether they want to check a group status or an individual status. Next up is a security alert. These must be confirmed or cancelled by the applicant. Of course, if you cancel it, you cannot query the status.

Travellers who know the application number enter the passport number, date of birth and number above. The application then appears and can be modified. It is advisable to check the validity period at the same time.

Travellers often do not remember the number of the application. But that's not a problem. In this case, the passport number and date of birth must also be entered. In addition, the country of citizenship, the date of issue and the validity date are required. Once an application has been filed with these data, it can be retrieved.

Summary

The address in the USA is one of those questions that everyone has to answer, but which ultimately are not important. Nevertheless, it should of course be answered truthfully. If you visit a friend or acquaintance, simply enter their address. If you are staying in a hotel, please enter the address of the hotel. For a round trip Homeland Security recommends to enter the first hotel. For a trip without a booked hotel, travellers can also enter "Unknown".

The next time you travel to the USA, you can simply change the entry on the ESTA page of Homeland Security. However, this is not absolutely necessary. Entry is still possible.
